AirPods have become an irreplaceable part of our daily life. The engineering behind these small devices is so impressive that the audio quality, comfort, and ease of use all work in unison to provide the users with the best experience.

Just like any wireless device, AirPods can show connectivity issues. It can be because of low battery health, mismatched firmware version, faulty Bluetooth, etc. Whatever the reason is, there are solutions to each.

Now, if you are wondering, “Why won’t my AirPods connect?” – This article is exactly what you need. Here I will talk a bit more in depth about why your AirPods are not connecting and also provide some fixes for your issue. So, let’s get started.

Why won’t my AirPods connect? Watch this video with solutions!

This video is created by Lofi Alpaca.

5 Reasons Your AirPods Are Not Connecting To Your Phone

Your AirPods might act weird when trying to connect them with your device. If you wonder why won’t my AirPods connect to my phone, there are some very common reasons for it. Here are 5 reasons for your AirPods not connecting with some simple solutions.

1. Drained Batteries

When a wireless device is low on battery, malfunctions become common. Not just AirPods, you will face such problems with almost any wireless device; game controllers, wireless mouse, keyboard, headset, etc. AirPods might act the same when low on battery. So, this is the most straightforward fix, and you should try it first.

Put your AirPods in the charging case and charge them appropriately. You can either use a wireless charger or a lightning cable. The green light on the box means the AirPods are fully charged. It should fix the issue more often than not.

2. Outdated Software

The firmware version is critical for devices to work correctly. If there’s a firmware update on your device but ignore it, things like AirPod connection trouble might occur.

The smartest thing to do is to update the firmware. The firmware update option is usually in device settings. With the correct firmware version, you should be able to get rid of such problems most of the time.

3. Bluetooth Malfunction

AirPods connect via Bluetooth. And Bluetooth is notorious for weak connectivity. A faulty Bluetooth connection can be the culprit behind the issue.

So, you can do a quick inspection by just toggling the Bluetooth on and off. You can do that from the control center on your iPhone or the settings option.

4. Software Glitch

A minor glitch in your OS can also cause connection issues. Restarting the device is the oldest method to solve this issue.

If none of the above is fixing the AirPod connectivity issue, it’s time to restart your device, whether it’s a phone, tablet, or laptop. If your device doesn’t have a direct restart option, turn it off. Wait around 15 seconds before turning it on again.

5. Firmware Glitch

Firmware is the software that is directly embedded into your AirPods hardware. If any issues arise in the firmware, then the AirPods will obviously act out. Usually, the firmware updates in the background while you use the Pods. And issues can arise while this happens.

A simple factory reset is your solution. Connect your AirPods to charging and close the box. On your device, go to the setting, then Bluetooth. Find your device name, then choose ‘forget this device.’ There should be a confirmation prompt.

Open the charging box and press the setup button on its back for 15 seconds. Wait till the light flashes an amber color, then white. Now that the AirPods are reset, take them out of the box and place them near your phone. Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect them to your device if everything goes well.

Why Won’t My AirPods Connect to My Mac?

If you can’t connect your AirPods to your MacBook or Mac Pc, there are different fixes. As Mac and AirPods are from the same company, there are some extra steps to fix the problems. Let’s take a look:

  1. As stated above, the firmware version is a big issue for connectivity. If you can’t connect your AirPods to your MacBook, make sure that you have the latest version of macOS. If not, update it.
  2. If AirPods are out of battery, you might face difficulties connecting them to your Mac device. Put the AirPods in the case and make sure that they are fully charged.
  3. If the AirPods are connected, but you can hear anything, be sure that they are selected as your audio device.
  4. If you see the AirPods on the list of devices but not working, remove them from the device list. To do that, click the X icon next to the device name. Put the AirPods in the box, close the lid for 15 seconds, then open it.
  5. After that, press and hold the button on the back part box for 10 seconds. Flashing white light means that the AirPods are ready to pair with your MacBook.
  6. Put the AirPods close to your mac and follow the on-screen instruction to pair them with the MacBook.

One important thing to know is that AirPods can be associated with apple id. If you are using a pair of AirPods that someone else used before, you need to remove the AirPods from their apple id.

Why Won’t My AirPods Connect to My Chromebook?

If your Chromebook’s Bluetooth works appropriately, it should be able to connect Bluetooth devices like a wireless mouse, keyboard, controller, etc. If you can’t use your AirPods with your Chromebook, check if there’s an issue with the Chromebook’s Bluetooth.

If the Bluetooth on Chromebook is on, it should automatically detect the AirPods. In case it doesn’t, turn Bluetooth on and off. If it doesn’t work, press and hold the setup button on the back of the AirPods case. The Chromebook should detect the AirPods.

If nothing works, you try the fix I already discussed above. Charge the AirPods completely, update the firmware, remove the device, and pair it again. Lastly, reset the AirPods and start from scratch.

Conclusion

The connectivity issue with AirPods is nothing new. It can seem scary if you are unaware of the common reasons that are causing it. However, the possible fixes I mentioned above should fix most issues 99% of the time.

Thanks a lot for reading till the end & have a nice day!
