Method 1:
- On your smartphone, open the Facebook app and log in to your Facebook account.
- Click the profile icon on the left upper corner of the app (red square).
- Once you’ve successfully opened your profile, scroll down to your friend’s list, and click the friends account you wish to Facebook PM.
- In this case I select Niels to sent a PM. Click the message icon immediately on your friend’s profile. This will open a personal chat with that specific person.

- Type what you want to say in the text box and hit the blue arrow (send icon). The person will receive the private message once you click the send icon.
Method 2:
When you PM a message through Facebook, you are actually sending a message through Facebook Messenger. The above way and therefore fairly cumbersome and there is a much easier way to send someone PM via Facebook Messenger. We explain that step by step below.
- Download ‘Facebook Messenger’ via Google Play or the App Store. I had already downloaded the app, so with me it’s open. If you don’t have the app yet, the download icon is here.
- When you open Facebook on your phone, click in the right top corner on the Facebook messenger icon to open Facebook Messenger.
- In the red rectangle you can search your friend who you want to sent a private message.
- If you selected your friend type your message in the text box and press the blue arrow to send your Private message and start your one on one conversation.
- One more thing, you can directly click on the Facebook Messenger Icon on your mobile to instantly access your Facebook Messenger.
How to PM someone on Facebook using laptop or desktop?
Facebook is quite different when using a PC. So here are the steps to PM on PC,
- Log in to your account on Facebook.com; you will find a friends list on the page below your contacts’ right-side panel. If your friend has a green dot beside their name, they are currently online.
- When you click a contact, a pop up will be displayed on the bottom. Type your message in that box and click the send option.
How do you PM someone on Facebook Messenger?
- You can also send a message through the website’s chat application displayed on the top right of the page.
- Type a friend’s name in the search bar and select a friend’s name from the result. Type the message and hit the send option.
- Facebook always prioritizes your privacy. You may limit your availability to certain friends and family. However, this kind of chat is always kept confidential.
