Within a few years, YouTube has gone from existing as a simple video sharing platform to a giant social media platform helping people to connect. As per 2020 statistics shared by Statista, YouTube ranks as the 2nd top application with 2000 million users active per month.
There are more than 31 million YouTube channels on the platform as of May 2020. All the YouTubers are making videos and promoting their content on the site to earn. Recently YouTube introduced a new feature known as “Highlighted Comment.” It has confused a lot of people across the globe.
What is a Highlighted comment on YouTube?
Comment highlighting is a new feature of YouTube that simplifies the browsing experience. Irrespective of whether you are the video creator or just a regular viewer of the video, anyone can highlight a comment in any video. All you need to do is click on the timestamp next to the user’s name on YouTube.
For a viewer, who has highlighted a comment, the benefit for them is simple. When someone responds to their comment, they will receive a notification saying, “Highlighted Reply”. But the real benefit of this feature is for the one who owns the video. If the video owner highlights a comment, it becomes less stressful for them to reply to it and search for it later on from a massive pool of comments.
It simplifies and streamlines the browsing experience only. The highlighted comments are moved above the pinned comment, making it easier to be found. When the comment is highlighted, YouTube creates a special URL for it. To undo it, you have to restore the URL to its original format.
With the highlighted comment feature, YouTubers are finding it easy to filter essential and constructive criticism. Before this feature, it wasn’t easy to navigate and find meaningful comments and respond to them.
