Good leader speaking to employees

A well-functioning team gets the right coordination and necessary inspiration from a true team leader. Someone who supervises and directs the whole company is the most effective form of leadership in organisations. But who is the right person to take on this important role of captain? What important competencies are required to fulfil this job?

Acting as a stimulating coach

The core characteristic to create and maintain a strong team is growth and development. A manager who knows how to motivate and stimulate, so that team members continue to develop and achieve success. A high level of empathy is what distinguishes a good team leader from an inferior. Because the stimulating coach knows his employees, he knows what their strong capacities are and uses them in a smart way.

Ensuring a trusted work environment

Following on from the coaching role, offering great trust in employees is crucial. A good team leader gives his people lots of freedom to develop new ideas and experiments. Trust ensures that the employee takes his task seriously and develops his own way of working that suits him best. With this freedom, the team leader also gives his team room to make mistakes and fail. This is the best way to learn, adjust and come up with new and even better ideas.

Result-oriented working

When a leader has the qualities described earlier, he will gain trust and respect. Something that is extremely important for a manager to be result-oriented. When you put all your people to work in such a way that they do the right work, you let the team work as productively as possible and with that, result oriented. This results in achieving the goals you have set for yourself and the team.

The success of a team does not only depend on the manager. It is the task of the team members to fulfil the agreements made, and to feel the responsibility to accomplish tasks as well as possible. However, the right employees will participate in this pattern and the employees who do not fit within this pattern will quickly become visible.
