You can change your Spotify profile picture from the mobile application, a tablet, the desktop app or the web player. Open your profile, choose the picture-editing option and select the image you want to use. The change applies to your listener profile, so first check that you are signed in to the right account.
You do not need to connect Facebook just to upload a photo on Android. That instruction in older guides is outdated. A Facebook connection can still explain why an existing photo appears or why a removal option is missing, but it is not a requirement for the normal editing steps below.
How to change your Spotify profile picture on Android or iPhone
- Open Spotify and tap your profile picture at the top.
- Choose View Profile, then Edit.
- Tap Change photo and select the image you want to use.
- Review the selected picture and complete any confirmation shown in the app.
Spotify’s official profile-picture guidance uses this route for mobile and tablet devices. You can also change the display name in the profile editor, but you do not need to do so when replacing only the picture.
How to change your picture on desktop or the web player
- Click your profile picture at the top and select Profile.
- Click the current picture to open its editing controls.
- Choose a photo from your computer.
- Click Save.
Make sure you are editing the picture on your own profile. Artwork on a playlist, an album cover and an artist’s image are separate items. If clicking an image only opens a playlist or starts playback, return to your profile before trying again.
Choose an image that works at a small size
A profile photo is often displayed as a small circle. A face or simple symbol near the centre is easier to recognise than a wide landscape or a screenshot filled with text. Leave some space around the subject so a circular crop does not cut off the part that matters.
Before uploading, preview the image at approximately the size you expect people to see. If you cannot recognise it without zooming in, use a simpler crop. Keep the original file separately so you can try another version without repeatedly editing a compressed copy.
Use a picture you have the right to use. Spotify specifically asks users to respect copyright, trademarks and personal image rights. A photo appearing in an image search is not, by itself, permission to use it as your account’s public identity.
Check that the right account received the change
Open your profile again after saving. Look at the display name and a familiar playlist as well as the picture. This is especially useful on a family computer where several people use Spotify, or when you have an older account you rarely open.
If the phone shows the new image while the computer shows the old one, compare the account details before uploading again. You may be looking at two accounts rather than a failed update. A matching display name does not always settle that question, since people can use similar labels.
What if the picture does not update?
First confirm that you completed the save step and still have an internet connection. Then reopen the profile. Spotify recommends logging out and back in to refresh the connection if changing the image did not work. Make sure you know your sign-in method before doing that.
If one interface continues to fail, try another supported interface, such as the web player instead of the phone app. Use the same account and image so that you are testing one difference at a time. Note any error message rather than repeatedly choosing different files without knowing what failed.
If Spotify rejects the file, follow the requirements shown by the current uploader. Do not treat an old guide’s JPEG-only rule or fixed file-size limit as a universal requirement. As a practical troubleshooting step, a straightforward JPEG or PNG copy can help distinguish a file-format problem from an account problem.
Removing the current photo
The picture editor also offers removal where available. On mobile, look for Remove current photo; on desktop, look for Remove photo. Spotify notes that a Facebook-connected account may use its Facebook picture by default and may not show the removal option.
If that applies, review the account connection rather than assuming the button is broken. Avoid changing another social profile’s picture unless you want that change there too. The aim is to control the image shown on Spotify, not accidentally alter several profiles while troubleshooting.
Listener photos and artist images use different workflows
These steps are for an ordinary Spotify listener profile. An artist page is managed separately through Spotify for Artists and may involve different permissions and image controls. Changing your personal picture will not update a band’s artist image.
When asking support for help, describe which type of profile you mean, which device you used and what happened after saving. A concise description such as “the listener profile updates on the web but not in the Android app” is much more useful than saying that every Spotify picture is broken.
