Facebook is now a vital part of a business’ online presence, but – like every aspect of a company’s public face – you need to do it well to be effective. The best way to make sure that your social media presence appropriately represents your company culture is to plan it out by considering each component. Although the content itself will be unique, there are basic areas that everyone should cover.
Showing your company’s face to the world
The profile picture is one of the first elements to include. Your business logo will be a natural fit and help potential customers to identify which one is your business when they undertake a search. The cover photo can be the same as your website banner, but only appears when a customer clicks onto your company page. This is a good element to roll into your seasonal marketing plans, i.e. a Christmas theme in December. This element, in particular, appears differently on different devices, but you can only load one so you need to make sure it’s the most flexible. Check on all devices (phone, tablet and desktop) before considering the job done.
Making sure all your information is current
The “About” tab contains all of your business’ basic information. Potential clients or returning customers need to be able to have all your contact information at their fingertips. If they can’t find something as simple as your contact details, your business will lose credibility as a professional operation. There are also tabs for ‘Posts’, ‘Reviews’, ‘ Videos’, ‘Photos’ and ‘Community’. Familiarise yourself with each area (and look at how your competitors handle them) to make sure that anything associated with your Facebook company page is a true representation of how you want your business to be seen.
Ultimately, maintaining a professional and attractive business page is a continuous process. Even when you first go live, and therefore don’t have many followers, you should be creating and curating the page content as if you do. If you treat your company page as an extension of your marketing strategy rather than an afterthought, you will be able to ensure a professional and representative image at all times.
